The Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Housing has summoned 28 out of 30 contractors handling Lagos HOMS project in Ajara Badagry area of the state.
The Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Housing, Hon. Olanrewaju Layode who led the committee members on inspection tour of the project frowned at the slow pace of work at the site.
Layode speaking to journalists at the inspection site said “We are not impressed with the work done, few contractors are on sites while only some are able to go beyond average performance with the funds given to them.
“It is not encouraging at all, the scoring of New Town Development Authority does not reflect what is on ground for contractors who have received above 50 percent of funds and left the work far from average.
Layode urged residents to be patient with the government assuring them that the project would be completed to provide accommodation for the residents of the area.
He also showed displeasure at the insincerity of New Town Development Area (NTDA), the supervising agency for the project, accusing the agency of giving wrong impression of performance by the contractors.
According to him, the House will later pass a resolution on the report of the committee which will be based on the responses of all invited contractors.
In his own remarks, Hon. Olushola Shokunle representing Oshodi/Isolo State Constituency I stressed that the performance of the contractors was far below expectation assuring that the committee members would ensure that the projects are completed while quality is not compromised.
The site engineer from NTDA, Mr. Idris Ojurongbe while responding to questions from members of the committee, stated that some of the contractors were playing smart while others stopped due to poor financing of the project.
