A 44-year-old man, Obinna Aneke, a native of Udi Local Govt. area of Enugu State, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for defiling a 7-year-old girl kept in his care.
Aneke, who resides at James Esu Street, Bariga, a suburb of Lagos, with the girl’s parent was alleged to have committed the crime on Tuesday, 8 February, 2016 but the girl told her father about the incident on Sunday, 13 February, 2016.
The matter was reported at Bariga Police Station and Aneke was subsequently arrested.
The case has been transferred to the Gender Center Lagos State Police Command Headquarters for further investigation while the girl was taken to Mirabel Centre at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for proper medical test.
The mother of the girl told the police that when Aneke lost his job, she took care of his three children for three years and that was why she entrusted her daughter to his care when she goes to work but he took advantage of her absence to defile her.
The Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dolapo Badmos said the suspect will soon be charged to court while advising parents to be wary of the kind of people
they give their wards to when they are not at home.
