The Police in Warri, Delta State, yesterday killed a robbery suspect and arrested two members of a three man robbery gang who attempted to rob a commercial tricycle rider of his vehicle around Ighogbaudu road, Okumagba Layout.
The robbery attempt was reportedly thwarted when the police ran into the operation during their routine patrol.
It was gathered that the suspects, pretending to be passengers, boarded the tricycle but on getting to Ighogbaudu road, one of them demanded for the keys of the vehicle at gun point, but the rider exhibited bravery by resisting the attempt.
Following his resistance, one of the robbers, who wore a mask, shot the tricycle rider on the leg. The gun shot sounds attracted the attention of the police who were nearby on patrol and they immediately rushed to the scene.
Police spokesman in the state, Mrs Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident, said the armed robbers on sighting the policemen, took to their heels and the one wearing mask, was shot in an exchange of gunfire between him and the police.
She said the two other gang members who fled the scene through an adjoining street, were apprehended by a mob.
