Heavy Rain: Don’t Panic, Lagos Tells Residents

The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, has urged residents not to panic over the heavy rainfall in the state on Sunday, stressing that preventive measures have been put in place to prevent any incidence of flood disaster.

The Commissioner made this known in a statement where he explained that the state Government had cleared blocked drainages and canals in some flood prone areas.

Adejare urged those who indiscriminately dump refuse in the gutters to desist from it s it has caused a lot of environmental disasters.

He also warned those building illegal structures along channel right of ways  in the state maintaining that the government will no longer tolerate such acts and  a demolition exercise had since begun in removing illegal structures and shanties that are erected on road channels especially in flood prone areas.

He however cautioned residents living on wetlands and flood prone areas to be careful, urging them to limit their movement if possible and to move to higher ground if need be.
