It was a rare display of leadership quality today as Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, conceded his seat for other passengers to allow Arik to take off.
Arik over booked and the passengers got a hint of it before the airline called for boarding, so there was a crazy rush at the boarding gate. The situation was a little bit controlled as people got to the aircraft but as was expected, a couple of people didn’t get seats and then the trouble started.
Some guys just went to sit in front of the aircraft and its tyres to prevent the take off. Governor Akeredolu came down and pleaded with them and tried to contain the situation as Arik didn’t even know how to sort it out. The situation was becoming chaotic. Efforts of the pilots were but to no avail.
The Governor had to step down two of his aides in order to get some more people on the plane. It was then settled and the plane took off after about an hour of passengers waiting in the plane.
