Isolo LCDA joined other 20 local government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State to celebrate 2017 Community Day celebration on Wednesday 6thDecember 2017.
The 2017 Community Day was celebrated simultaneously across the state to further decentralize the event to upscale popular participation and reverse the age-long tradition of seeing power from above. The event which was held at the council premises was attended by over 20 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across the seven political wards of Isolo LCDA, artisans and farmers.
In his address, Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode who was represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Funmilola Odunlami gave testimonies to how communities in Lagos State are taking control of their lives and shaping a future for themselves and their children.
According to Gov. Ambode, many of these records are models of gallantry, organizational acumen, communal solidarity, prudence and sacrifice. “These are the leadership values we are celebrating today as we salute the leaders in our various communities for rising up to the challenge and making history.
“These testimonies teach us to learn from the people and emulate their industry. If communities without means of coercion can collectively persuade themselves to build roads and police posts; if communities, without firing a shot, are able to resolve to finance the construction of health centres and community centres, they teach us the values of independence and responsibility,” the governor added.
In his own address, the Executive Chairman of Isolo LCDA, Hon. Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye used the occasion to specifically appreciate members of CDAs, CDC and the artisans for their support during the last council poll. He stressed his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises to the people of Isolo LCDA even as he mentioned that some of the promises have been fulfilled while others are soon to be fulfilled.
According to him, the rehabilitation of some major roads, payment of bursary to indigene and indigent students of higher institution of learning; payment of endowment to widows, aged and the physically-challenged lay credence to the fact that the promises are gradually being fulfilled.
