The lawmaker representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Olusola Sokunle, has said that Lagosians would enjoy better health service delivery in the State’s General Hospitals, saying that more funds would be injected into the sector for public good.
Sokunle made this known when he led the adhoc committee on Health Services of the House on a visit to Ifako-Ijaiye and Orile-Agege General Hospitals on Monday.
The lawmaker explained that the essence of the visitation was to collate the various challenges facing general hospitals across the state, stating that the sector cannot be left unattended to.
Sokunle, who was the Chairman of the Health Committee in the 8th Assembly, added that the challenges of the general hospitals would be given quick attention by the necessary quarters.
“We are on this visitation to examine and collate the challenges facing our general hospitals across Lagos because good health service delivery is paramount to this government”, said Sokunle.
“All challenges presented by all Medical Directors of the general hospitals will be given especial attention by this administration and the House of Assembly in its own part will help in solving the identified challenges”.
Earlier, the Medical Director of Ifako-Ijaiye General Hospital, Dr Olusola Amure, stated that the hospital is suffering from poor power supply which had affected the effectiveness and efficiency of the hospital.
Amure explained that due to poor power supply, the hospital had always depend on power generator to power its health facilities.
He stated that the hospital incurs more expenses on diesel for power generation, which affects its Internal Generated Revenue (IGRs).
“We need another ambulance, the one we are using is outdated and it was given to us by last administration. We need more medical staff to ease the pressure our staff is facing”, said Amure.
In similar vein, the Medical Director of Orile Agege General Hospital, Dr Adegbite, who took the adhoc committee round the hospital, said that the assistance of the state is needed for better performance.
Adegbite stated that the hospital would need perimeter fencing for security as the existing one is dilapidated.
