A judge opines that the “safest place” to keep the leader of outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is the prison.
Justice Binta Nyako spoke at the resumption of Kanu’s trial for treason. The fleeing pro-Biafra leader asked the court to guarantee his safety so he could return to the country to face his trial.
To this, Nyako said: “Even judges are being abducted in the country. So prison is the only safest place for him.”
Kanu’s counsel, Ifeanyin Ejiofor, had also informed the court that he had filed processes as it concerns his client’s revoked bail.
Labaran Shuaibu, counsel to the federal government, told the court that he had just seen the application, and he opposed it.
The judge adjourned the matter till January 16, 2020.
