Sacked APC Rep, Abdulmumin Jubril Rejects Court Ruling

Abdulmumin Jubril, the All Progressives Congress lawmaker whose election into Kiru/Bebeji federal Constituency seat was nixed by the Appeal Court on Friday, says he “disagrees with the decision”.

Jubril, in an official statement, says the Court of Appeal through the ruling gave more than the petitioner, Aliyu Datti (PDP), had requested.

“Strangely, even though the petitioner’s sole relief as it related to a rerun election before the Tribunal and Court of Appeal was for a nullification of the aforesaid 13 polling units, the Court of Appeal, on its own volition nullified the entire election of 23rd February, 2019”.

The Court of Appeal said it found that the final result contained in Form EC (8)E as submitted for the constituency was mutilated.

The sacked legislator said despite he had accepted his fate and looking forward to the next poll.

Sounding upbeat, Jubril believes voters “who have consistently and repeatedly been freely giving me their mandate will not hesitate in doing so again.”

However, Jubril’s decision on standing on the ballot is at variance with earlier suggestion he might return to school as a law student. The lawmaker had, in July, tweeted the possibility of he leaving the House of Reps. To acquire a degree.

Equally, this much was implied in a July 26 tweet by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila following insinuation he side-lined  Jubril despite working for his ascension into his current position.

Gbajabiamila had said: @AbulAbmj wants a fresh challenge and his preference will be to return to the university and pursue his professorial ambition, face his private business or serve in the executive arm of public service”
