Just as the pandemic is still ravaging the works especially Nigeria, the efforts of the Federal and Lagos State Governments in combating the virus by putting all necessary measures in place have been commended.
The commendation was given on Wednesday, 6 May, 2020 in Lagos by the Coalition of Oodua Self Determination Groups( COSEG) in a press release signed by Dayo Ogunlana and Dele DARA molasses, Chairman and Publicity Secretary of COSEG Cordinating Committe respectfully.
The group hailed the policies and actions of Lagos State Government Task Force On Covid-19 led by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu and the Federal Government as represented by the Presidential Task Force on Covid19 led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, noting that their policies towards mitigating the effects of Coronavirus on the populace are commendable.
According to the group, “we commend the activities and policies of Lagos State Government Taskforce led by the selfless and hard-working Governor Sanwoolu and the Presidential Taskforce on Covid19 led by the SGF, Mr Boss Mustapha on various methods, actions and policies put in place to save life and to ensure the sancity of economic survival of the populace.
“If we can recall that a month ago, directives of lockdowns in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun were carried out and implemented by these states but at a point when it was inevitable, the Government again directed that the lockdown should be relaxed in phases and the conditions as to these were jointly mapped out to ease the pains on the people and to clearly protect them from the consequences of exposing themselves to Coronavirus. Having studied the policies as it were, we commend them for being proactive so far”.
The group further more called on Lagosians and other states where the lockdown are being relaxed to various measures put in place to protect the spread of the pandamic.
The group added, “We have in utter disbelief seen various ways how people are exposing themselves to coronavirus in total disregard to the measures put in place by the two governments. We wish to call our people to order and remember that we have only one life. There is no gainsaying that this plague is real. We must therefore restrain ourselves in going against the various measures our governments have put in place. Social distancing is a must, wearing of nose masks, staying at home, washing our hands are some of the measures put in place”.
The group however noted that the palliatives being distributed to the populace are grossly inadequate and did not get to those who are in need of them.
The group said, “despite our commendations to the goverment, we frowned at how the palliatives that supposed to go to the indigent people who were so in need were distributed. It was so lopsided but we know that no matter the numbers to be given out, it will never go round because of its cost implications. We therefore task the goverment that no matter the criticism, they must not stop sharing these palliatives to the needy.
“However government can design new ways of capturing the people who are seriously in need of these palliatives as the numbers trooping to banks and moving out unnecessarily are just too damning which can cause a dangerous calamity to the Nation”.
