Residents have recovered the corpse of an 18-year-old girl, Aishat who sank into an overflowing canal during Monday’s downpour at the Alapafuja axis of Surulere, Lagos State. Aishat’s corpse was buried at the Rabiat Thompson-end of the canal, where her corpse was found. Some residents’ effort at rescuing Aishat, soon after the incident occurred, failed as the heavy floodwater quickly swept her out of sight.

Also, Nosa Okunbor, Head, Public Affairs of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said officials could not also find the Aishat’s body as at Monday night.
According to insider information, the deceased was the only child of the father. The father, a local politician identified as Lekan, allegedly denied the child’s paternity while the mother was pregnant with her. He later accepted the child was his. Until her death, Aishat was living with her grandmother, who sells cooked food.
The legislator, representing Surulere Constituency 1, Hon. Desmond Elliot, has visited the site of the incident .
