The Communication Students Association of the Students Representative Council (COSA-SRC) of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Saturday, 11 July, 2020 presented its Third Webinar Series, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Various speakers were invited to speak on the main topic, Good Governance As A Pedestal For Insitutionalizing The SDGs Between The Town & Gown.
The webinar series are educated lecture organised by the COSA -SRC to deliberate on issues affecting the nation.
For the programme on Saturday, four notable speakers were invited to give insights on the topic of discussion based on their field of knowledge.
The first speaker, Mr Ibidapo Fashina, President of LASUMAS, gave a deep insight on the topic by explaining more on the basis, “we can’t have good governance without a good government and we can’t have a good government without good leaders”.
He started with this point and make valuable points related to the topic by stating that the qualites of a leader and its relevance to SDGs noting that it is good leaders that engender good governance which in turn will impact well on the realisation of the SDGs.
His conclusion was, “we must make global relevance with our local impacts”.
The second speaker, Rt. Hon Abayomi Ogidan, Speaker, 4th Assembly Lagos State Youth Parliament spoke more on the SDGs and they have impacted positively on the populace reeling out few of the projects put in place by the agency.
Amb. Kehinde Adebiyi National Director of Campuses SDGs Act Nigeria, who was the third speaker also spoke on the impact of good leaders on good governance while also speaking glowingly of how SDGs have improved the lives of Nigerians.
The last speaker, Ms Yetunde Fadeyi, Founder of REES Africa, a non – governmental organisation which employs renewable energy access for rural areas to promote environmental sustainability.
She suggested that a decentralized system of government should be put in to practice which will be able to give the citizens or elected representatives more power in making public decisions.
“This will help to institutionalize the SDGs to promote good governance,” Fadeyi said.
The webinar series ends with speeches from both the Moderator of the Programme and the Speaker of Communucation Students Reprsentative Council: Mr oluwaseye Ogunsanya and Rt. Hon Oluwatumininu Adetona respectively.
