Low rank lawyer, Olumide Akpata, has emerged the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
Akpata defeated two other candidates in the NBA poll that was organized on Thursday to attain the victory.
Akpata who is the only candidate in the poll that is not a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) at the election, defeated Babatunde Ajibade and Julius Adesina who were both Senior Advocates of Nigeria.
He won the elections with 1,002 votes which represent 54.8% of the vote cast to defeat Babatunde Ajibade who got 808 votes and Julius Adesina who got 679 votes.
The election was conducted online and accredited members who were accredited voted electronically.
Gazelle.com reports that Akpata is an expert in corporate and commercial law and is the former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law.
