The Youth and Sports Development Minister, Mr. Sunday Dare has canvassed for support in the Oyo State All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that unity in the party was more important than personal ambition.Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting of Oyo State All Progressives Congress in Ibadan on Friday, 28 August, 2020, participants at the meeting drawn from across the state’s three senatorial districts aligned with the Minister’s position.Dare charged party leaders on the need to reposition the APC for future victory. He said the idea that some
factions should rule perpetually because they are assumed to be more important than the party must be discarded.He advised against exalting some small groups over the larger ones as this was against the democratic spirit of the party. He said this could have adverse effect on the future of the party.The Minister urged the APC in Oyo State to embrace more inclusive approach. He said only a strong, unified party could win elections.“The crisis experienced by the party was protracted because of factional interests. Oyo State APC must unite in order to benefit more from the centre”.
Chief Niyi Akintola, SAN appealed to party members to desist from inflammatory remarks that could derail the peace initiative.
Former Oyo State Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo commended the Minister’s peace initiative.He affirmed that the Minister continued efforts was capable of uniting all factions in Oyo State APC.Professor Dibu Ojerinde enjoined elected office holders of the party from Oyo state to support the Minister in sustaining the reconciliatory efforts.He said all stakeholders must be part of the reconciliatory move.Some prominent members at the meeting include:
