The race for who picks the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the coming by-election to replace the late Tunde Braimoh in the Lagos State House of Assembly seems to be over, The Gazelle News.com reports.
Investigations by this medium revealed that a former Assistant Secretary of the party in the state, Barrister Femi Saheed has emerged as the consensus candidate who has been endorsed by all the aspirants.
The Gazelle News.com learnt that Barrister Saheed’s emergence came at a meeting involving all the aspirants where they were prevailed upon to pick a consensus candidate.
According to report, the meeting took place at the party secretariat at the behest of the leadership of the party. “At the end of the meeting, we all settled for Barrister Saheed and all the aspirants present at the meeting signed to approve the decision,” one of the aspirants told The Gazelle News.com on Friday, 28 August, 2020.
The development was also confirmed by one of the aspirants on his Facebook page.
When contacted, the Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Honourable Seye Oladejo, stated that the party has not picked any consensus candidate.
“APC is a party which adheres strictly to the rules and regulations hence we will organise a primary election to pick our candidate. This is the laid down rule and we will not flout.
“My advice to all the aspirants is that they should all prepare for the primary election,” the former Commissioner for Special Duties in Lagos State said.
