The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) is currently facing a financial scandal occasioned by alleged theft of sports equipment from its store, The Gazelle News.com can report.
This medium learnt exclusively that some staff of the commission including the Deputy Accountant of the agency were arrested, quizzed, detained and later released by the police.
The suspects were allegedly arrested by policemen from Barracks Police Station in Surulere.
Investigations by this medium revealed that sports equipment and other sundry goods worth over N12 million were stolen from the commission store.
According to reports, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Oluwatoyin Gafar (Bolowotan), Director General of the Commission, Sanmi Doherty, ordered the arrest of the alleged suspects.
The incident took place on Tuesday, 1 September, 2020.
Apart from the Deputy Accountant, the Chief Security Officer and the Chief Store Officer of the Commission and 10 other staff were arrested and detained for 24 hours by the police on the order of Gafar’s aide.
The alleged suspects were later released on bail on by Gafar.
The Gazelle News.com learnt further that some senior civil servants were not happy with the development querying the source of power of the DG’s aide to order the detention of the alleged suspects.
Our correspondent sought the reaction of the DG to the incident but he neither denied nor affirmed the incident.

We later sent an SMS to his lines and he did not respond.
