Lagos and Nigeria at large would have literarily standstill for Senator Oluremi Tinubu who is representating Lagos central at the senate and also doubles as the wife of the All Progressive Congress, National leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as she clocks 60 on Monday 21 September 2020.
But the birthday girl will not be celebrating the milestone as she would have loved to. No thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic that is ravaging the world.
The birthday celebration will be a quiet one with her immediate family.
‘I would have loved to celebrate the milestone however given the ravaging pandemic and the hysteria it had generated across the globe,no social gathering in conformity with the health and safety protocols stipulated by the government’the lawmaker wrote in a post to announce the milestone.
She therefore appealed that all monies and gift should be directed towards charity,the New Era Youth Camp.
10years ago when the former Lagos State first clocked 50,prominent dailies were awash with congratulatory messages to felicitate with her.
The messages included a full page colour advert by her husband,Asiwaju Tinubu himself in which theformer governor waxed lyrical about his wife: I celebrate you, my darling wife, today and always. Today your 50th birthday is a golden day, a golden year of a productive and fulfilling life.You came from a humble but great background. But you have risen to the zenith of public service, especially when the cause is of the downtrodden and the underprivileged. Within these past 50 years, I can’t believe the young lady I knew virutally yesterday, dated and married, would still remain like a 21-year old! And this, with all the tribulations and challenges of my political struggles’ he penned down.
Also to commemorate her golden jubilee, prominent Nigerians gathered at the New Eko Hotel Expo Centre, Adetokunbo Ademola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos from 6 p.m to 8 p.m for an evening of a praise and worship . The colour of the day was purple and gold. A coffee table book was also launched in her honour narrating her spiritual journey.
The Federal Government of Nigeria also honoured Mrs. Tinubu with the Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON award.
