The pioneer civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande; the former Governor of the state, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu; the state Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo; and other prominent Nigerians have bagged deserving meritorious awards from Bishop Howells Memorial Grammar Schools, Bariga, Lagos.
Founded on 3 October 1980, the Lagos Anglican school, on Saturday October 3, 2020 celebrated its 40th Founders’ Day anniversary with eminent Nigerians and several others founding members of the school being honoured with different categories of awards at the ceremony.
Among the awardees included the first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande who according to the school’s principal, the Venerable Tunde Oduwole, was the Governor of the state when the school was founded as School 4 of C.M.S Grammar School, the oldest secondary school in Nigeria.
Speaking on the choice of Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos state also being honoured, the Venerable Oduwole said after Jakande, it was Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu9 who returned schools to the missions in 2001 against all odds but that vision has now been fully justified as a wisest decision of the time.
Aside from award ceremony which was massively graced my alumni of different set of the school, other highlights of the occasion were tree planting around the school premises as well as commissioning of various projects to improve on the facilities available in the school.
