The Lagos State Police Command have arrested 56 notorious cult members in the Ikorodu and Ibeju Lekki axis of the state, reports The Gazelle News.com.
Fifty of the suspects were arrested at: Imota, Igbokuta, Emure and Adamo towns in the Ikorodu Division while the six others were arrested at Ibeju Lekki area.
The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu disclosed this on Sunday, 7 March, 2021 at the state police command headquarters in Ikeja.
Arrested in Ikorodu Division were 38 males and 12 females.
Among those arrested were: Abiodun Abbey also known as Oju Ogunle, a notorious cultist reputed to have killed 22 people in Ikorodu area; Gbamila Iyabo, 26 years old wife of the number 1 of Aye Confraternity in Igbokuta; and Salisu Islamiyat, 29 years old wife of the number 1 of Aye Confraternity in Emure.
Gbamila was arrested with one pump action gun loaded with eight rounds of cattridges while Islamiyat was arrested with locally made pistol with some live cattridges.
Others arrested from the Ikorodu Division include: Oladunni Abiodun, male, 20; Dosumu Oluwaseun, male, 22; and Segun Adelaja, male, 29; and 44 other suspects.
They were arrested by the Commissioner of Police Strike Force between Friday, 5 and Sunday, 7 March, 2021.
Other items recovered from them include: guns, live ammunition and cartridges, assorted charms, berets with Confraternity logos, paraphernalia of office of Confraternity and some dangerous weapons.
The suspects arrested in Ibeju-Lekki include: Adeyemi Hassan, male; Adesoye Yusuf, male; Yusuf Sadiku, male; Isaila Adebanjo, male; ex-convict and leader of Aye Confraternity, Mosuru Ojo, male; and Tajudeen Ramon, male.
Odumosu restated that the command will make Lagos State very hot for criminals, especially cultists, who terrorise the good people of the state. The police boss re-echoed the command’s readiness to tackle and decimate criminals in the state.
The Commissioner of Police thus put all Area Commnaders and Divisional Police Officers in the state on their toes to ensure that the state is rid of cultism, crimes and criminality.
He further charged them to spread and embrace the principles of the Community Policing concept of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, NPM, mni, to have effective policing of their respective areas and the state at large
He also ordered for prompt Investigation and prosecution of the cases as necessary arrangements have been made by the Lagos State Government to consistently fast track judicial processes in the state.
