The race for the Speaker of the 10th Assembly Session of the Lagos State House of Assembly may have been settled finally with the decision of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) to settle for the incumbent, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa to continue in office, thegazellenews.com can exclusively revealed.

This medium learnt that the highest decision making body in Lagos met on Saturday, 3 June, 2023, to nip the brewing crisis in the bud and it was decided for stability, Obasa should continue in office

It was also decided at the meeting that Obasa’s main rival, Honourable Mustain Abiodun Tobun who represents Epe State Constituency I, should be the new Deputy Speaker of the House to replace Honourable Wasiu Eshilokun-Sanni who has been elected to represent Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber.

Thegazellenews.com learnt exclusively that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu gave the GAC members the mandate to meet, deliberate and take final decision on the lingering Speakership crisis in the state House of Assembly.

“When the GAC members met on Saturday, many factors were considered mainly on the stability in the House, the principle of checks and balances as well as the issue of zoning.

“It was decided that the evolution of power in the state has naturally settle the zoning balance: Governor from Lagos Central, Deputy from Lagos East and Speaker from Lagos West,” sources told thegazellenews.com from the meeting.

The meeting also agreed that Honourable Tobun should be the new Deputy Speaker of the House while the members were given the prerogative to choose the other Principal Officers.
