After four previous bids were rejected, Manchester United and Chelsea have finally agreed terms for Mason Mount to move to Old Trafford in a deal worth up to £60 million.

The two clubs re-opened negotiations on Thursday, 29 June, 2023 and settled on a fee of £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons after United had offers rejected by Chelsea, who initially demanded £70 million for Mount.

The 24-year-old England international will undergo a medical next week before signing a five-contract worth £250,000-a-week with the option of another year.

Mount was one of Erik ten Hag’s main transfer targets this summer but United were reluctant to overpay for a player who was entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

He has been at Chelsea since the age of six and scored 33 goals in 195 appearances for the club, winning the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

The move will allow Mount to play Champions League football after United finished third last season – and he’ll hope it gives him a chance to build on his impressive collection of silverware. So far, that includes the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Mount leaving Chelsea will end a long-running spell that saw him join the Blues at the age of six back in 2005.

He earned a name for himself during early loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County – where he linked up with then-manager Frank Lampard – before the club legend gave him his first-team breakthrough when he became Chelsea boss in 2019.

Mount has gone on to play 195 times for Chelsea, scoring 33 goals.
