The Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has rolled out series of massive programmes to alleviate the hardship occasioned by the removal of oil subsidy by the Federal Government, reports thegazellenews.com
Full details of the programmes were released on Tuesday, 22 August, 2023, via a statement by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Felix Ofou.
According to the statement, the state government plans to extend its palliatives to widows, youths, people with disabilities.
Also the government has commenced payment of N5.522 billion promotion arrears to civil servants in the state with effect from August, 2023.
Apart from this, the Oborevwori administration has facilitated and guaranteed N40 billion pensions payment for pensioners in all the local government areas of the state.
The government is also paying N10,000 each to 50,167 public servants, including the 10 tertiary institutions in the state for the next three months in the first instance.
The Oborevwori administration has also reduced the working days for civil servants between grade levels 1 and 14 to three days per week on agreed rotational basis until further notice.
“Civil servants on Level 15 and above will work out what is convenient in their respective MDAs but working remotely is encouraged,” the state government said, while also acknowledging that all essential duty areas will remain fully functional.
The statement stated further that, “In keeping with his promise to be a Governor for all Deltans, Governor Oborevwori has constituted a committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG,) other critical stakeholders including Labour, to extend the palliative programmme to cover the following:
Identify the poor and vulnerable households across Delta; identify widows from the State’s robust widow database; People living with disability (PWD) who do not fall within categories above; the aged; urgently engage the Keke Assembly plant in Asaba to finalise the production of Tricycle that is fuel and CNG compatible; and provide electric vehicles for mass transit.
