The Presidency on Wednesday, 111 September, 2024 described the 2023 Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, as the Nigerian version of former United States (US) President Donald Trump.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, said Trump and Obi share some similarities.

Ajayi, who made the remark on X while reacting to the US presidential debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, noted that both men use negative epithets to describe their respective countries.

The presidential spokesman said Harris, a candidate of the Democrats, won the debate because she understood Trump’s weaknesses.

“Peter Obi is the Nigerian version of Donald Trump. Like Obi, Trump uses the most negative epithets imaginable to describe a country he wants to lead again, just to make a point and rile up his base.

“Kamala Harris prosecuted Trump very well in their first face-to-face debate last night. Kamala convincingly won the debate and left no one in doubt about her capacity.

“Vice President Harris knew Trump’s weaknesses and set traps for him. Trump fell for her bait. Both candidates have been fact-checked on their claims in the debate.

“While Harris was reported to have made just one incorrect claim, Trump made 33 false claims in the same 90-minute debate,” Ajayi wrote.
