The Lagos State Arewa Community (LASACOM) adopted a report submitted by the youth wing of the group warning of the dangers of what they called and alleged deliberate interference in its activities by the Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.
The report was presented by the Group’s Youth Leader, Honourable Ibrahim Bebeji before the Elders’ Committee chaired by Architect Kabiru Ahmed, former Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure in Lagos State during the End of the Year 2024 Annual Progress Report which took place on Wednesday, 27 November, 2024, at the Arewa House, Capitol Road, Agege, Lagos State.
In the report, Honourable Bebeji alleged that the Vice President has been making direct interference into its affairs without referring to its leadership, trying to set up a parallel faction to hijack the organisation in favour of his former school mate, Alhaji Bombado and his colleague, Alhaji Aminu Yaro.
“Mr. V.P., Sir, your biased interference attempt to change the leadership of Arewa Community during the 2023 presidential elections is one of the major causes that led to the failure of APC in the 2023 presidential elections in Lagos State. I can provide details,” Honourable Bebeji alleged.
At this stage, Architect Kabir signalled to Honourable Bebeji to step down details saying such details will be accessed in the report.
Bebeji would not bulged as he continued, “The Arewa Community is an age long organisation that has paid its dues in community development in Lagos State since 1996 participating in community relations that has come to guarantee peaceful co-existence in Lagos State vanished the dark era of communal clashes.”
The Chairman noted the report and promised that he would convey it to appropriate quarters.
“We have agreement with our Grand Patron, who is now the President of Nigeria, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and we stand on that agreement. We will not allow anybody to create any parallel organisation to hijack the Arewa Community to favour corrupt politicians for whatever purpose. It is better to concentrate effort on advancing the fortune of APC in Borno State and in the North East and leave Lagos alone!”
It can be recalled that Alhaji Aminu Yaro and his wife were arrested and prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) along with former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele for various corruption charges earlier in the year.
