Oyo State Fire Service has confirmed that a fire incident on Friday, 20 December, 2024 claimed the lives of a man, his wife, and their grandson at a storey building in the Ori-Eru area of Idikan, Ibadan, the state capital.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the sad development in a statement issued on Friday, 20 December, 2024.

Akinyinka revealed that the agency received a distress call regarding the incident from one Hassan at 3:46 a.m. and promptly dispatched personnel to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we found the upper floor of a six-room residential building engulfed in flames, and we quickly took action to extinguish the fire completely,” he stated.

According to him, three individuals—a husband, his wife, and their grandson—lost their lives in the blaze, while five others were rescued safely from the building.
Akinyinka mentioned that the ground floor and nearby properties were protected from the fire.
“Our investigation revealed that the family attempted to keep warm due to the cold weather by using an open flame, which ultimately led to the fire disaster after they had fallen asleep,” he explained.
