A women advocacy group, the Coalition of Professional Women In Politics (COPWIP) has gave its full backing to the Lagos State House Of Assembly Speaker, Rt Honourable Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, reports thegazellenews.com.
COPWIP added that women for good governance in Lagos State are supporting the trailblazing speaker, just as they also called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene on the matter and ensure her tenure remains uninterrupted.

The President of COPWIP, Engineer (Dr) Atinuke Wuraola Owolabi stated this during a press conference held in Lagos on Thursday, 6 February, 2025.
Owolabi stated that Meranda made history as Lagos State’s first female Speaker, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of women in leadership.

She added further that any attempt to remove the new Speaker would not only be a personal loss but also a major setback for women’s representation in governance.
According to her, Meranda has all the qualities to be at the exalted post, noting that her achievements speak for her.
“As a dedicated public servant, Meranda has demonstrated leadership rooted in transparency, accountability, and collaboration. Her achievements speak volumes, and her presence in office symbolizes progress for Nigerian women striving for political inclusion,” Owolabi who is the Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineer of Nigeria (APWEN), said.
Owolabi called on women and apostles of gender equality to back the Lagos Speaker by raising their voices in her support, just as she appealed to President Tinubu to use his good office and ensure the new Speaker performs her constitutional duties without hindrance.
“We call on all women and advocates of gender equality to raise their voices in support of Meranda. We also urge President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure her tenure remains uninterrupted. Women’s leadership must not be undermined—we must protect the strides we have made,“ Owolabi said.
She charged all women in the state to stand together to “affirm that women deserve to be seen, heard, and respected in leadership. #MadamSpeakerMerandaStays #WomenInLeadership #NigeriaDeservesBetter”
Speaking in an exclusive interview with thegazellenews.com after the press conference, Owolabi called on all women to give their backing to their kind.
“I called on all women in the state to support Madam Speaker. She is going to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Lagos State. We are all here to support her because we are her friends, and with her on the seat of the Lagos State House of Assembly, we have a formidable team,” she said.
