Imagine a movie where the villain, after being fired from his job, returns with armed goons to take over the office. Sounds like a blockbuster, right? Well, that’s exactly what happened in the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday, Feb 27, courtesy of the inimitable Mudashiru Obasa.
After being lawfully removed as Speaker, Obasa decided to take the law into his own hands – literally! He allegedly summoned the DSS and Police to storm the Assembly, seal offices, and intimidate lawmakers. Because, you know, that’s exactly what you do when you lose a democratic election.
But wait, it gets better! Obasa’s goons even prevented the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, from accessing her office the other day. Talk about a smooth transition of power, right!
So, where is our Rule of Law? Did Obasa’s goons get a special dispensation to disregard the constitution? Inquiring minds want to know!
Meanwhile, Lagosians are left wondering if they’re living in a democracy or a banana republic. But hey, at least our lawmakers are getting some free drama and action, courtesy of Obasa’s shenanigans!
