Five Die After Ebonyi Transport Bus Crashed In Umuahia

Five passengers travelling in an 18-seater Toyota bus belonging to Ebonyi Transport Corporation have lost their lives in a fatal accident that occurred on Umuahia section of Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway on Friday, 7 February, 2025.

The accident happened at Ohiya Mechanic Village in Ohiya, near the Abia Tower of Peace in the Abia capital.

Eyewitnesses report that the ill-fated bus somersaulted multiple times, leading to the tragic loss of five lives, while many others who sustained serious injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Umuahia for treatment.

No official factor has been established to have caused the crash but some eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the Ebonyi Transport Company bus suffered fatigue and dozed off on while riding on the highway.

Another account claimed that it may have been caused by a break failure.

But the officials of Abia State Emergency Service quickly arrived at the accident scene to rush the injured passengers to the FMC, while the bodies of the dead victims were also deposited at the FMC mortuary.
