President Bola Tinubu has vowed to revolutionize the Nigeria Police Force through comprehensive welfare improvements and technological upgrades, declaring April 7 as National Police Day.
Speaking through Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, who represented him as the Special Guest of Honour, President Tinubu made the pledge during the maiden National Police Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja on Monday.

The event, which marked a significant milestone in honouring the contributions of the Nigeria Police to national security, featured an impressive display of tactical skills and equipment by various police units.
In his address, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of police personnel and equipping the Force with modern tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and crime-fighting capabilities.
He praised the resilience, courage, and sacrifices of police officers across the country, especially in their efforts to curb insecurity and uphold law and order.
The grand celebration showcased a spectacular parade and display by the Force, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots, specialized disposal vehicles, Special Intervention Squad (SIS) air and land response units, K9 units, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), and Peacekeeping Paraphernalia, among others.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, described the National Police Day as a symbol of renewed dedication to professionalism, community partnership, and service excellence.
The IGP expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for designating April 7th as an annual day to celebrate the Nigeria Police, pledging that the Force will deepen its reforms, strengthen community ties, and uphold the rule of law while ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
The historic event drew a host of dignitaries, including members of the Federal Executive Council, state governors, lawmakers, service chiefs, retired senior police officers, captains of industry, and representatives from the private sector.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police expressed appreciation to all attendees and partners who contributed to the success of the event.
