The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that normal services have been restored to the Port Harcourt – Aba rail corridor as from Tuesday, 9 September, 2025, reports thegazellenews.com

This followed successful testing of Locomotive 2223, which subsequently has been declared fit for service.

In line with the Managing Director’s directive, passengers who previously held tickets for the disrupted service will travel free of charge, while new passengers will enjoy a 50% discount on fares as a gesture of goodwill.

“NRC regrets the earlier disruption and assures the public of its continued commitment to safe, reliable and customer friendly rail services across the country,” a statement signed Dr. Onyedikachi S. Onovo, District Public Relations Officer, Eastern District of the NRC said.
