It was all smiles for the people of Sabonkogi settlement in Amuwo- Odofin LGA, Lagos state on Friday, 12 September, 2025 as Hope for the Masses Foundation commissioned a solar-powered water project for the use of residents of the community, reports thegazellenews.com
For several years, the community lacked good water and other essential amenities but the Foundation has brought smiles to the faces of the residents with the commissioning of the water project.

Commenting on the project, Executive Director, Hope for the Masses Foundation, Oluwatomisin Adebukola said the project will go a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the community.
“We didn’t just give them water, we also set up a water treatment plant for purification. It’s 5000 litres for every pumping cycle. Starting from 7am to 5pm daily,” she said.
On maintenance Adebukola said, “we encouraged the community to own it and protect it. Aside from this, we are putting measures in place to make sure there’s no sabotage”.

Before this project, the Foundation said some residents of the community went as far as Maroko in a canoe to get water which they sell to the larger population of the settlement.
“We have been able to put smiles on the faces of different families in the community with this gesture,” Adebukola said.
Also speaking, the sponsor of the project, the German Consulate represented by the Vice Consular, Gerald Wolf said it gladdens their hearts to see the relief and joy on the faces of the people of Sabonkogi as clean water flows freely for the first time in their community.
He believed that the community will take good care of it for proper maintenance.
“This project is more than water, it is health, dignity, and hope restored. Together, we are building sustainable solutions for communities that need them the most,” the German envoy said.
Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Matemilola who is the board Chairman of the Foundation thanked the German consulate for their support and contribution to the project. He promised that if the community makes good use of the project, several others will be facilitated.
“We will monitor it because it is the first of many others depending on how you used it,” the Monarch said.
The traditional ruler of Takwa Bay Island, Oba Musiliu Yusuf represented by the Odofin and Eletu, commended the effort of the Foundation and their sponsor for the noble gesture.
Some of the residents who spoke with thegazellenews.com expressed great joy and relief on the project as a dream come true at last.
