Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have arrested a 25 year old man named Sufiyanu Aliyu, for the alleged murde of his 15 year old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, following a domestic dispute that turned violent at their home in Gwanyal Village, Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
The incident, according to the police, happened around 7:30 pm. on October 27, when an argument between the couple escalated into violence. Witnesses said what began as a disagreement quickly turned into a physical confrontation.
The Sokoto State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, who confirmed the arrest of Aliyu, explained that officers received a distress report and immediately moved to the village.
“When our team arrived, the scene was secured and processed for evidence,” he stated.
According to the state police image-maker, investigators said Aliyu allegedly picked up a knife during the quarrel and stabbed his wife, causing fatal injuries. The weapon, believed to be what he used in the attack, was recovered at the scene.
The teenage girl was rushed to the hospital, where a medical doctor pronounced her dead.
According to the statement, the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation and is currently in custody.
Rufai assured the public that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further action, emphasizing that justice will take its course.
