History was made in Lagos on Saturday, 8 November, 2025, in a moment that captured the spirit of Lagos and redefined Nigerian road racing, as Nigerian runner Alabi Aminat sprinted into the record books, becoming the first Nigerian ever to win the Lagos Women’s Run (LWR).
Crossing the finish line in a blistering 39 minutes and 25 seconds, Aminat ended a nine-year stretch of foreign dominance, signaling a powerful new era for local talent and electrifying the thousands who gathered to witness this groundbreaking victory.

Reacting to the historic achievement, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, praised the athlete’s determination.
“Alabi Aminat’s victory today is not just a personal triumph but a victory for Lagos State and Nigerian sports. We must equally appreciate the Governor of Lagos, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who made this possible through the state government’s support for the Lagos Women’s Run 2025,” Fatodu said.
