Popular comedian and actor Broda Shaggi has opened up about his difficult upbringing in Makoko, a Lagos slum, sharing how those early years shaped his resilience and drive.
Speaking candidly about his childhood, Shaggi described it as a period he would never want to relive.

“Honestly, it was a life I don’t think I want to ever, ever live again. Surviving every day was hard. I won’t lie because my mom had no money. After my dad died, we came to Lagos, and that was when we started living in Makoko,” he said.
He recounted supporting his mother and siblings through acting while still in school. “I could only feed myself, feed her, feed my brothers through what I made from acting in school. It was back-to-back hustle,” Shaggi explained.
He also revealed that his mother, who was once a petty trader, had to stop working due to financial difficulties.
Shaggi’s story highlights his determination and perseverance, showing how he rose from humble beginnings in Makoko to become one of Nigeria’s most beloved entertainers.
