The Lagos Kids Mini-Marathon 2025, an annual sporting initiative that continues to set the benchmark for children’s athletics in Nigeria, was held on Saturday, 6 December, 2025, at Orange Island, Ikoyi and once again demonstrated its transformative bearing, as hundreds of young participants showcased exceptional grit and athletic prowess.
The children competed across age-appropriate distances, including 1K walks and 1.5K runs for the youngest participants aged 4-5 years, 3K runs for ages 6-12 years, and 5K runs for teenagers aged 13-15 years. The event also featured a 5K adult category, allowing parents and guardians to participate alongside their children, reinforcing the family-oriented nature of the initiative and promoting intergenerational fitness awareness.

Speaking on the back of the event, Mr Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, commended the organisers for their consistency in hosting the annual marathon and praised the young participants for their impressive showing.
“What we have witnessed here today is a testament to the boundless potential of kids when given the right platform and encouragement,” Fatodu stated. The Lagos Kids Mini-Marathon aligns perfectly with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of creating platforms where our children can explore their abilities and build confidence in a supportive environment.

The significance of the Lagos Kids Mini-marathon was underscored by the presence of several notable parents who continue to serve as motivation for their children.
Among the guests in attendance were Mr Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission; Mr Seun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, Lagos State; Mrs Solape Hammond, former Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on SDGs and Investment; Dr. Awele Elumelu, Chairperson of Heirs Insurance Brokers; Mr Opeyemi Adu, SSA on Sports Marketing and Administration to the Governor; and Ms. Alaba Ayoku, SSA on Administration to the Governor; and other notable figures.
