The legal team handling former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Chika Malami led by barrister Mohammed Sheriff elhassan has raised the alarm over the continued detention of Malami by the Economics and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Barrister Muhammed Sherif Elhassan described Malami’s detention unlawful and a violations of his constitutional rights.
Elhassan who decried oppressive and unattainable bail conditions said the allegations of jumping bail and/or failing to attend daily invitation by the EFCC is fictitious as from the November 24th, 2025 to November 29th to December 1st and 8th, 2025, Malami had willingly submitted himself for investigations by the commission.
After he was grilled for over 15 hours, he was initially granted administrative bail by the commission in which he met all the conditions.
“Upon return to the commission on December the 2nd, 2025, the commission amended the bail conditions and revoked the earlier one in order to continue to detain him unlawfully,” the lawyer noted.
He maintained that the former Attorney General is being investigated on Abacha loot and not terrorism as claimed by the commission, he said that his detention by EFCC beyond 24 hours violate Nigeria’s constitution.
“We are therefore seeking Court intervention to end his unlawful and unconstitutional detention because is irrational to continue to detain a person who obeyed all invitation and cooperated fully with the commission’s investigators,” he queried.
The former Attorney General Malami is still in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission three days ago after honouring an invitation. He is bein investigated over 46 accounts and alleged abuse of office.
