The Federal Government on Thursday, 15 January, 2026 commended the Super Eagles for their performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite the team’s semi-final defeat to Morocco, reports thegazellenews.com

The commendation came a day after the Atlas Lions defeated Nigeria on penalties to reach the final of the tournament.
Following the result, the government said the Super Eagles had displayed resilience and commitment throughout the competition.

In a statement issued by Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, the government said the team demonstrated character,teamwork, and determination qualities he described as deeply important to the nation.
According to him, the players’ efforts earned them the respect and gratitude of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
While acknowledging the disappointment of the defeat, Idris praised the team for representing the country with pride and dignity. “Thank you for giving your all and for representing Nigeria with pride and dignity,” he said.
He added that, even in defeat, the Super Eagles showed unity and resilience, stressing that such attributes matter deeply to the nation they represent.
Ultimately, the government said the team’s performance reinforced national pride and unity, noting that their campaign at the tournament remains a source of inspiration for Nigerians.
