A 19-year-old driver, Nsikak Okon, was arrested on Thursday, 15 January, 2026 after a high-speed, reckless chase in Benin City left three police officers injured and prompted the discovery of substances suspected to be hard drugs in his vehicle.

The incident unfolded when Okon, driving a heavily tinted vehicle with no license plates, encountered officers during a routine patrol.
According to CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer for the Nigeria Police Force, Okon sped past the officers in a dangerous manner, prompting a pursuit.

“You were driving a fully and heavily tinted vehicle without number plates. You met police officers on the road and sped past in a very reckless manner,” Hundeyin wrote on his official X handle on Friday, 16 January, 2026.
He added that Okon returned moments later, “nearly knocking down an officer,” and then deliberately came back again, striking three officers.
Following the collisions, police intercepted and apprehended Okon.
Hundeyin noted that while two of the injured officers have since been discharged, one remains under medical care for injuries sustained during the incident.
He further explained that the teenager’s rampage caused damage to other vehicles before authorities successfully took him into custody.
Upon searching the car, officers discovered substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Hundeyin highlighted the seriousness of the offences, which include reckless driving and possession of illicit substances, questioning, “Why have you decided to start your 2026 like this, 19-year-old Nsikak Okon?”
Police said the suspect will face further investigation while authorities trace the source of the suspected drugs and determine whether there were accomplices involved.
They also urged the public to allow the law to take its course while ensuring that the injured officers receive continued care.
This case has drawn widespread attention following a viral video posted on X by user #ChuksEricE, which showed the dramatic arrest after Okon’s dangerous attempts to evade the authorities.
