The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, on Tuesday, 20 January, 2026 , through a statement on his verified X handle, denied online reports claiming that his mother passed away on Monday, 19 January, 2026, describing the news as false and misleading, reports thegazellenews.com.
Ribadu issued this statement after receiving an influx of calls and messages from concerned friends and well-wishers.

According to the reports, Mamma Ribadu, aged 86, and mother to both the NSA and Sani Ribadu, Emir of Fufore in Adamawa State, had died.
“I have been inundated with calls and messages from friends and associates following an inaccurate online publication claiming that my mother passed away on Monday, 19 January 2026,” Ribadu said.

While acknowledging the messages of sympathy, the NSA clarified that the report was erroneous, disclosing that his mother had actually passed away 28 years ago.
“The publication is false and misleading. My mother of blessed memory passed away 28 years ago and therefore could not have died on Monday,” he said.
He stated that the individual who died on Monday, 19 January, 2026, was Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, wife of his late uncle.
“The person who passed on Monday is Hajja Mamma Sulaiman Ribadu, the wife of my late uncle. May Allah SWT forgive her shortcomings, bless her soul, and grant her Aljannat Firdaus,” he said.
Ribadu also expressed gratitude to those who offered support to his family during the loss and prayed for divine reward for their compassion.
