The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that the ruling party remains open to welcoming former New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Presidential Candidate, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

He made the remark on Sunday, 1 February, 2026 during an interview on Trust TV, against the backdrop of recent defections in Kano State politics.
Governor Abba Yusuf, alongside members of the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, recently left the NNPP for the APC, fueling speculation over Kwankwaso’s next political move.

Yilwatda stressed that the former Kano governor would be warmly received if he decides to join the APC.
“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he’s most welcome. Though we are not yet in negotiation with him,” Yilwatda said, underscoring the party’s readiness to accommodate prominent political figures willing to align with its platform.
Shifting focus, Yilwatda defended President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, arguing that the President’s experience, exposure, and international networks enable him to achieve in a single day what would take others years.
“Because of his experience, exposure and connections, what he can connect in one day will take most of us years to gain and achieve,” he said.
He further framed the trips as sacrifices in the national interest, aimed at attracting foreign investments, negotiating bilateral agreements, and addressing security challenges.
“For this man to sacrifice for this country, to move around, attract investment, work on security and negotiate bilateral agreements, should we take that for granted?” Yilwatda asked.
