The Chairman of Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area, Hon. Jimoh Olawale Saliu, has convened a high-level stakeholders’ meeting with the management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company to confront the persistent deteriorating power supply in the community.

The meeting, held on Thursday, 26 February, 2026 brought together council officials, traditional leaders, legislators and community representatives to address what participants described as a prolonged electricity crisis that has disrupted economic activities, undermined social stability and affected the general welfare of residents across Apapa-Iganmu.
At the session, Hon. Saliu emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating that reliable electricity was critical to economic revival and community well-being.

He urged EKEDC officials to prioritise improvements in power distribution to the area, stressing that artisans, small business owners and households had borne the brunt of frequent outages.
The Chairman said the “deplorable state of power supply” had crippled productivity, particularly for welders, tailors, mechanics and other small-scale entrepreneurs who depend on steady electricity to operate tools and machinery.
He added that many residents were unable to work effectively, resulting in declining incomes, business closures and mounting financial hardship.
Beyond the economic strain, stakeholders highlighted growing social and security concerns.
Participants noted that prolonged darkness had provided cover for antisocial activities, thereby threatening peace and safety within the neighbourhood.
Deliberations were held in the presence of the Council Manager, Mr. Lateef Badmus; the Legislative Arm led by Hon. Adigun Arogundade;
respected traditional rulers; and other key stakeholders. Discussions centred on immediate and sustainable interventions to restore stable electricity to the area.
Hon. Saliu pledged full collaboration between the LCDA, residents and EKEDC, assuring the power company of the community’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and accountability.
He emphasised that constructive engagement, rather than confrontation, would define the council’s approach to resolving the crisis.
Stakeholders, speaking through their representatives, expressed unanimous support for cooperative efforts.
They reaffirmed their willingness to ensure prompt and regular payment for electricity consumed, maintaining that responsible usage and bill settlement would form the foundation of improved service delivery.
The meeting reached key resolutions, including an immediate assessment and targeted interventions by EKEDC to upgrade infrastructure and reduce outages.
Participants also agreed on the need for public awareness regarding the deployment of free prepaid meters, continuous dialogue and monitoring mechanisms between the LCDA and EKEDC, and sustained community sensitisation on payment compliance and efficient energy use.
The engagement marked what officials described as a significant step toward resolving long-standing grievances over electricity supply in Apapa-Iganmu.
It further reflected the council’s commitment to grassroots governance, stakeholder inclusion and collaborative problem-solving.
Hon. Saliu and the leadership of Apapa-Iganmu LCDA reiterated their resolve to follow through on the resolutions, expressing confidence that sustained cooperation would restore reliable power supply, stimulate economic growth, enhance artisan productivity and strengthen peace within the community.
