Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday evening, 5 March, 2026, reflected on her nearly 40-year marriage to President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing respect, patience, and faith as keys to a lasting relationship.

Speaking at an Interfaith Breaking of Fast (Iftar and Lent) at the Old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja, she shared personal insights from her interfaith marriage, highlighting peaceful coexistence as a model for harmony in society.

According to the First Lady, since her marriage to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which had spanned over four decades, she and the President have not had any cause to raise voice at each other, especially on matters concerning religion.

She stated, “Some of us are married to men of different faith, and we lived together peacefully for many years. Me, almost 40 years. And I can tell you, I cannot remember when both of us raised our voices at each other… So we’ve been quite mature and respectful about that. And I believe that’s the best way to live together.”

First Lady further emphasized that her relationship with anyone who does not know God does not last long, stressing that faith and mutual respect form the foundation of enduring partnerships.
