Vetland Senior Grammar School, Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, has recorded a remarkable academic milestone by securing second place at the prestigious “I Beg to Differ” Secondary School Debate Tournament organized by Nigeria Info FM.
This achievement stands as one of the highest placements ever attained by a public secondary school in the competition.

The journey to this outstanding feat began with the school’s registration by the Principal, Dr. Maria Eko, in early January 2026. Following a rigorous audition held on January 31, 2026, the Vetland team progressed through a highly competitive pool of 32 schools to reach the grand finale, demonstrating exceptional brilliance, confidence, and teamwork.
The three-member team, comprising of: Popola Oyinkansola Mary, Olagbaju Hephzibah, and Oyeniyi Abisoye; under the dedicated guidance of their coach, Oyeleye Aanuoluwapo Omolayo, displayed outstanding debating skills, critical thinking, and eloquence throughout the competition. Their performance not only earned them national recognition but also set a new benchmark for public schools across the country.

At the conclusion of the tournament, the team was awarded medals, cash prizes, and various educational and media equipment, including selfie sticks, smart video-calling cameras, and portable microphones, in recognition of their exceptional performance.
This achievement is a strong testament to what students in Lagos State public schools can accomplish with early preparation, quality coaching, and a supportive learning environment. It also reinforces the commitment of the Lagos State Government to improving the standard of public education and empowering students to compete favorably on national platforms.
The success of Vetland Senior Grammar School serves as an inspiration to other students and institutions, proving that excellence is attainable regardless of background. It calls for continued support, investment, and recognition of academic talents within the public education system.
