The Nigeria Police Force has rescued Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, three days after they were abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, during a coordinated operation that left two suspected kidnappers dead, reports thegazellenews.com
Mrs John-Paul is the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
The rescue operation was carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, 6 June, 2026, by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department-Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) in Ibadan.
Police said the breakthrough followed days of sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and tactical operations that enabled investigators to track the kidnappers and their movements.
Thegazellenews.com had earlier reported that Adegoke and her children were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, while she was driving the twins to school in Ibadan.
According to the police, intelligence-driven investigations led operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout, where they engaged the suspects in a confrontation during the rescue mission.
The Force said two suspected members of the kidnapping gang were fatally wounded during the operation, while two rifles were recovered from the scene.
The victims were rescued unharmed and have since been placed in safe custody, where they are receiving medical attention and necessary support.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Saturday, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, said the successful operation underscored the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting lives and combating violent crime across the country.
“The rescue was achieved through sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance and tactical operations. These efforts enabled investigators to track the kidnappers’ movements, resulting in a confrontation with FID-IRT operatives,” the statement said.
The Inspector-General of Police commended the operatives involved in the operation, praising their professionalism, courage and determination.
According to the statement, the IGP described the officers’ resilience and commitment as critical factors that ensured the safe rescue of the hostages.
“Their resilience and commitment were instrumental in the safe rescue of the hostages,” the police said.
Meanwhile, security operatives have intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate who escaped during the operation.
Preliminary intelligence reports indicate that some of the fleeing suspects may have escaped with gunshot wounds sustained during the confrontation.
Police said ongoing operations are focused on tracking, arresting and prosecuting all individuals connected to the abduction.
The Force also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their cooperation, support and patience throughout the operation.
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Nigeria Police Force assured citizens that it would continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies and tactical operations to tackle violent crimes and protect lives and property nationwide.
