Denrele Edun, famous Nigerian media personality and actor, has disclosed why he symbolically married himself, saying the unusual gesture was a celebration of self-love and personal growth as he marked his 45th birthday.
The entertainer ignited conversations online after posting a video announcing that he had entered into a symbolic marriage with himself.
Explaining the decision, Denrele said it was his way of recognising the strength, resilience and transformation that have shaped his life over the years.
“Till death didn’t do us part. So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he said in the video.
Looking back on his experiences in the spotlight, as well as the challenges and victories he has encountered, Denrele said he chose to celebrate the one constant presence in his life.
“I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!” he declared.
The television personality, widely recognised for his distinctive fashion sense and vibrant public image, ended the message on a triumphant note, describing himself as “The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”
