The President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (AMLAN), Kofo Abdusalam Alada, has warned that the world risks a devastating third world war if leaders and legal practitioners continue to undermine justice and international law.

Alada spoke on Saturday, 20 June, 2026, at the AMLAN Annual Symposium, which was convened in line with resolutions reached at the International Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association symposium held at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, on February 7.
He said the Nigerian gathering was necessitated by growing concerns over what he described as the relegation of international law to “the backwaters of near total irrelevance and irreverence” in an increasingly polarised world.
The AMLAN President recalled that the establishment of the International Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association was directed by the spiritual leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, adding that the body had, within a few years, emerged as a force in the pursuit of world peace.
“When His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad directed the establishment of the International Ahmadiyya Muslim Lawyers Association, little did we know that the association would, within a short time, become impactful in the quest for world peace as we are witnessing today,” he said.
According to him, one of the resolutions adopted at the London symposium was for national branches of IAMLA to organise similar forums in their respective countries.
He noted that the theme of the 2026 symposium, ‘International Law in Trial: Justice in a Divided World,’ reflected the fractured state of the international community.
“In realisation of the fractured nature of the world today, IAMLA chose an apt theme for its 2026 symposium: ‘International Law in Trial – Justice in a Divided World.’ Speakers of repute have been chosen to adumbrate on this theme,” he said.
Alada disclosed that a message delivered by Mirza Masroor Ahmad at the London symposium highlighted the precarious state of the world and called on lawyers and political leaders to remain steadfast in upholding justice as the foundation for lasting peace.
He urged participants to engage actively in the deliberations and appealed to leaders and citizens across the world to embrace the Islamic principles of justice, which reject discrimination and demand collective opposition to oppression.
“Leaders and followers, internationally and locally, should borrow from the pristine principles of Islam that advocate real justice and require that the whole unite against anyone among them who seeks to oppress others,” he said.
Warning of the consequences of inaction, Alada said justice remains the only guarantee against global catastrophe.
“It is this that ensures lasting peace and prevents the looming catastrophe of a third world war which, given the sophistication of warfare today, will have a most devastating effect and may end the world as we know it,” he said.
He added that the Ahmadiyya Muslim leader had repeatedly sounded the alarm over the danger.
“His Holiness keeps warning against it and we humbly reiterate the same here. Let the world beware and be united more than ever before. Let humanity come together to prevent the looming tragedy,” Alada said.
He also urged those who may not believe in accountability before God to reflect on the future of generations yet unborn.
“Even those who do not care about the hereafter and being answerable to the Supreme Being, our Creator, should pause and think of a future to be assured for their progeny,” he said.
Alada thereafter welcomed participants to the symposium and expressed optimism that the deliberations would contribute to the global quest for justice and enduring peace.
