Youths of Ikosi-Ketu/Isheri staged a 3-kilometre solidarity walk in the early hours of Sunday, 28 June, 2027, drumming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and Dr. Obafemi Hamzat’s governorship ambition on the APC platform.
The carnival-like procession kicked off at Mile 12 roundabout and moved through Ketu to CMD Road. Participants, clad in branded t-shirts and caps bearing the images of both leaders, danced and chanted solidarity songs, drawing the attention of residents along the route.
President Tinubu is seeking a second four-year term, while Hamzat, the current Lagos State Deputy Governor, is the APC’s flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
The march was led by several political stakeholders in the LCDA under the banner of the Ikosi-Isheri Active Progressive Youth [IAPY].
Speaking to journalists, IAPY spokesperson and filmmaker, Babaseun Fasheru, said the group was backing Tinubu over what it described as “bold reforms” since 2023.
“We are encouraged by the strides Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made since becoming President in 2023. The bold and courageous steps he has taken to put the country back on the path of economic recovery are commendable.
“Our people may be experiencing hardship due to the reforms, but we believe it is temporary. In no time, we shall begin to see the rewards of this belt-tightening,” Fasheru said.
Other speakers, Comrades Temitope Olaleye, Shodeinde Akeem Olakunle, and Hon. Kareem Akeem, said the rally was meant to signal the area’s confidence in the duo’s track record.
“We the youths of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA have come out en masse to support President Tinubu’s re-election and Dr. Hamzat’s governorship bid. This is our way of saying we believe in their capacity to deliver,” they said.
The organisers said the solidarity walk would be a regular feature until the 2027 elections. The event was sponsored by Hon. Alaba Shonaike, aka ‘Cypon’, a prominent youth leader in the area.
