From Yarima Haruna, Birnin Kebbi

Sarki SK as he fondly called by friends and family is a household name in Kebbi state due to his humility, openness and uncompromising stand on truth and telling it to whoever deserves to hear it no matter whose ox is gored.

His educational sojourn began as a primary teacher after completing his National Certificate of Education ( NCE) as a teacher for many years from one primary school to another in both urban and rural areas.

Known for dedication to duties Zaki rose through the ranks from ordinary teacher to Assistant Head Teacher and later to Head Teacher.

He was the head teacher in various schools as a trained teacher who takes his job very seriously, his star continue to blossom like morning flower as he gradually became moral instructor for both teachers and pupils, teachers and pupils feared him not because he is brutal but because teachers and pupils in school must be serious with their studies because he does not accept absenteeism or late coming.

Armed with this unique character trait, Zaki will only be deployed to a school with decaying moral and poor studies as such he has repositioned several hitherto indiscipline schools and consequently improved their education through strict moral and education instructions.

He was a member of the Teachers Institute for Distant Learning created to give Grade II teachers the opportunity to further their studies with ease and little financial burden through his active facilitation of the programme thousand of primary teachers were able to obtain NCE and bachelor of education to boost teaching in Kebbi state.

To broaden his desire and quest for education for the children of the poor and to defend the rights and previliges of teachers, SK joined unionism and won Kebbi state Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) election, the position he currently occupies.

Already his leadership of Kebbi NUT is yielding positive results as he saw to teachers capacity building through workshops, training and seminars to boost their teaching in schools across the state.

He is part of the committee for review of primary teachers salaries to help accualise the dream of Governor Nasir Idris of upward review of primary school teachers’ salaries in Kebbi state.

Kebbi state is proud of your contributions in education hence we write to sing your song as the unsung hero of our time and a moral instructor like no other.
