The Lagos State College of Health Technology (LASCOHET) has held its 12th orientation and oath-taking ceremony for students of the School of Medical Laboratory Technicians, formally ushering them into the ethical and professional responsibilities of medical laboratory practice.

The ceremony brought together the College Provost, Professor Raheem Akewushola, members of the management and academic staff, students and representatives of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), led by its Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Donald Ofili, who was represented by Mr Simon Bukar.

The event was organised to acquaint the students with the values, responsibilities and ethical standards expected of medical laboratory professionals as they commence their professional journey.

In his welcome address, Akewushola charged the students to approach their training with discipline, dedication, integrity and a strong commitment to excellence.

He emphasised the critical role of medical laboratory practice in healthcare delivery, noting that accurate laboratory investigations were essential to diagnosis, treatment and disease prevention.

The Provost also urged the students to uphold the dignity of the profession by demonstrating professionalism and maintaining patient confidentiality in the course of their duties.

The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the professional oath by Bukar, who represented the MLSCN Registrar and CEO.

The students formally pledged to uphold the ethical principles and responsibilities of the medical laboratory profession, with the oath-taking marking their commitment to responsible practice and service to humanity.

The ceremony also reinforced the importance of discipline, ethical conduct and professionalism as essential components of their training and future practice.

LASCOHET congratulated the students on the milestone and wished them a successful and rewarding professional career.
