Two officers of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, have been killed in an ambush by gunmen in Akure, the state capital.
The officers were attacked on Tuesday, 11 August, 2926 while emerging from their base along the Ago-Oyinbo farming area, around Ala Daadaa in Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State, with the assailants engaging them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The spokesperson for the Ondo State Amotekun Corps, Jimoh Adeniken, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, 21 August,2026 saying the operatives were attacked suddenly while carrying out their duties.
According to Adeniken, despite the resistance put up by the officers, one operative sustained serious injuries while two others were killed in the attack.
Following the incident, the corps immediately deployed reinforcements to the area to track down the attackers and bring them to justice.
The command has also intensified security operations, patrols and intelligence gathering within the affected area to prevent further attacks and reassure residents of the safety of their lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, alongside the corps commander and management of the Amotekun Corps, commiserated with the families, colleagues and loved ones of the slain officers.
The corps described the deceased officers as courageous personnel who paid the ultimate price in the course of protecting residents of the state.
It subsequently urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while providing security agencies with credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
The Amotekun Corps maintained that the attack would not deter it from carrying out its mandate, stressing that it would continue to work with other security agencies to protect lives and property across the state.
The families of the deceased also appreciated the Ondo State Government, the corps commander and the management of Amotekun for providing befitting burials for their loved ones.
They appealed to the state government to consider the families of the fallen officers in future recruitment into the corps and extend other benefits due to them.
The corps, meanwhile, reiterated its determination to track down those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.
